He was conscripted as a private into the Machine Gun Corps, which had been formed
in 1915 (it was the predecessor to the Tank Regiment).
He died on 29th July, 1918, age 19, and lies buried in the Raperie British Cemetery,
Villemontoire, east of Reims.
